1 pm - 3 pm
Accompanying Early Rock ‘n’ Roll and Blues with Harp:
The itinerant women harpers of the 19th century sang the pop tunes of their time and, if they were still around, they would probably be singing Rock ‘n’ Roll and Blues. Using rhythmic variations, boogie slap bass and other bass patterns, we will focus on arranging accompaniments for pop, rock ‘n’ roll and blues songs, even on harps without pedals.

Double-Strung Tunes and Techniques:
Special – for Spanish Peaks Harp Retreat Participants Only!!
Beth Kollé
For contemporary double-strung harps
Beth Kollé is co-author with Laurie Riley of two popular books for double-strung harp. She will introduce two never-before published arrangements for the double: a fun traditional Welsh tune and a beautiful ancient ballad from England. Beth encourages participants to ask questions, and to share their ideas and techniques as we dabble on our doubles!
Extra fee payable directly to Beth Kollé - More information below!**
** While the double-strung class is aimed toward Upper Beginner to Intermediate players, Beth will provide simplified scores of the two tunes for Early Beginners so everyone in the class can play along. Fee: $20 per person, special price for Spanish Peaks participants only – payable directly to Beth Kollé.
A limited supply of harp arrangement books and CDs will be available for purchase. All of Beth’s books are available at Melody’s Music (https://folkharp.com/). CD tracks are available with most track distributors, and physical CDs may be purchased at www.bethkolle.com.
Curious about the double-strung harp but not a double-strung player? For the same fee, you can audit the class, and join in on the Q&A at the end of the session. And then you can try your hands on a harp or two at the double-strung “petting zoo”!
